Art Lecture with Carolyn Lord, CAC Signature Member

Part of the California Art Club Orange County Chapter Exhibition.

“Millard and Me: The Significance of a Mentor,” will be a slide lecture presented by California Art Club Signature Member, Carolyn Lord.

The presentation will cover the history and legacy of Millard Sheets (1907-1989): childhood in Pomona; arts education in Laguna Beach and Los Angeles; and his impact on Southern California art and architecture.

Early in her career, Lord attended Millard’s painting workshops and will share his lessons that continue to inspire her own artwork.

Millard Sheets was also a member of CAC. The Hilbert Museum of California Art has acquired an extensive collection of his watercolors and oil paintings.

Sheets’ large-scale mosaic, “Pleasures Along the Beach,” greets visitors at the entrance to the museum. This summer, the Hilbert will host CAC’s 115th Gold Medal Exhibition.

Come enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at how a professional artist learned her craft.
