San Clemente, CA – Casa Romantica Cultural Center and Gardens, a nonprofit Southern California cultural center, announced its 2021-22 Casa Captivating Season to the public on Friday, June 11th. More than 100 people gathered at the seaside cultural center to await the news of what Casa Romantica has in store for the community following the COVID-19 pandemic.
To kick off the evening, Executive Director Amy Behrens welcomed Board President Ruth DeNault for opening remarks to the guests in attendance. Executive Director Amy Behrens, joined by Program and Marketing Director Kylie Travis, led the presentation of announcing the new Connections programming, upcoming performances, historic and contemporary art exhibitions, and expanded class series. Following the presentation, guests were invited to watch a performance with the Amanda Castro Band (June 9, 2022) on the beautiful Ocean Terrace at sunset.
Highlights of the Casa Captivating 2021-22 Season
- New to Casa Romantica, Connections revolves around thematic programming. Themes include Beyond Bollywood (October/November), Celebrating Chinese New Year (January/February), The People’s Poetry: Contemporary Dance and Music (April), and Art in the Gardens (May/June).
- The former Casa Jazz Club program is now Casa Jazz, featuring jazz performances throughout the year with a variety of price points. Upcoming artists include the Allison Miller Quartet (September 4), Jazzy Ash and the Leaping Lizards (October 9), Lao Tizer Quartet featuring Karen Briggs (January 28), and An Evening of Love Songs with Linda Purl, a fundraiser to raise funds for arts education at Casa Romantica (March 25).
- Casa Arts Education and Wellness Classes will be offered in thematic class sessions. From topics such as Mandala Rock Painting to Chinese Herb Gardening, patrons will be able to take these classes in four-week sessions.
- Explore the historic collection of early 20th century plein air artist Sam Hyde Harris in Sam Hyde Harris, Seeing the Unusual (November 19 – February 27).
- Guzheng (Chinese zither) musician Bei Bei, featured in Disney’s live-action Mulan, performs two concerts: Chinese Zither, a Chinese traditional concert (February 10) and Year of the Funky, a decidedly contemporary concert using her zither in a unique way with pop and funk (February 11).
- For their third year, the Southern California Shakespeare Festival Guild performs at Casa Romantica in an original site-specific commission titled Shakespeare’s Scenes & Sonnets (June 23 – 24).
- World-renowned artist duo CHIAOZZA will create an art installation titled Shape and Structure in Casa Romantica’s Art Gallery (June 10 – September 4).
