About the Artist
I feel that it is a basic human need to create, to express oneself. To me, art is storytelling. It is my conversation with the world. It is a way of processing what I encounter, of making sense of this life. As well as an artist, I am also an architect and an author. I do pen and ink drawings, watercolors, and oil paintings.
I have spent my life traveling the world, and certain places particularly resonate with me. Specifically, Japan, where I grew up, and Hong Kong and China, where I worked for 14 years. My dad and grandfather were fur traders in China and Japan from 1923 until 1937, and so I have been immersed in Asia and Asian art my whole life. The amazing culture and aesthetics of Asia influence my life and work. In this exhibit, therefore, I have displayed primarily Asian-based scenes.
