In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the fundamentals of Coptic stitch bookbinding — an ancient technique originating in early Christian Egypt that creates beautiful, exposed-spine books that lay completely flat when opened.\n\n\n\nDuring the class, you’ll construct your own hand-sewn book from start to finish. We’ll cover how to fold and nest paper signatures, punch sewing stations, and work through the iconic Coptic chain stitch that links signatures and covers together that gives the spine its distinctive woven appearance. You’ll leave with a finished journal and the foundational skills to continue binding at home.\n\n\n\nNo experience is necessary — all materials and tools are provided. Come ready to use your hands and slow down for a bit of meditative, satisfying craft.\n\n\n\nWhat you’ll make: A hand-sewn Coptic journal with a decorative fabric cover, approximately 60 blank pages.\n\n\n\nWhat’s included: All paper, cover board, fabric, thread, needles, and bone folders. Wear clothes you don’t mind getting a little glue on.\n\n\n\nSkill level: Beginner-friendly.
