Casa Romantica Poetry Series
The series is held the last Wednesday of every month in Casa Romantica's Main Salon, with the vision of furthering the existing literary arts community in Southern California and enhancing its growing national importance in the literary world. School Outreach
We strive to give children in South Orange County new experiences in the arts - especially through music and theater. Often, when we present artistic talent for a performance at Casa Romantica, we ask the performers to add an afternoon on Friday or Monday to appear at local schools. Examples of past school programs include actress Melissa Stevenson's "Biologues for Women," the Black Irish Band's collaboration with the music department at San Clemente High School, and classical guitarist Brad Richter's performance for elementary school children.
Ongoing.
Speaker Series
As the cultural anchor of its community, Casa Romantica offers diverse opportunities for learning about specialized areas of interest through its Speaker Series. People such as Orange County archivist Phil Brigandi and anthropologist Claire Cesara-de Silva have spoken at the site, and future speakers will address issues ranging from gardening to historic restorations to the art of Southern California.
Ongoing.
Field Trip Programs
Casa Romantica is developing curriculum based programming for children in 3rd and 4th grade. In the fall of 2007, Casa Romantica will present a full program that compliments the California State Standards Curriculum in science and social science, including water use and coastal ecology. The program will be open to public and private schools.
Library Program
The public library system of Orange County (OCPL) has developed a special collection of books dedicated to Southern California history, culture, and ecology to be housed at Casa Romantica. This satellite location will help the library to expand its programs for the public, and to facilitate literary events and activities for children and adults alike. The collection is only available through appointment Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and alternating Saturdays from 1:00-4:00pm. Please call the San Clemente Library at (949) 492-3493 for an appointment.
Artistic Workshops
Our facility has a 1000-square-foot Creative Workshop designed for hands-on activities like classes in gardening and arts and crafts. The facility will be used to expand opportunities in the creative arts and horticulture for both young people and adults beyond what is currently available in the community.
